On the other side, there’s the Chapman Mills residential neighbourhood, which feels super cosy and tight-knit. Think modern homes, community parks, and seriously convenient shopping plazas.

It’s literally the best of both worlds! Cool, eh?

Where is Ottawa’s Chapman Mills?

Chapman Hills is nestled in Barrhaven, which is in the southern part of Ottawa. If you’re trying to pinpoint it on a map, think of the area around Strandherd Drive and Longfields Drive.

The conservation area itself is right off Winding Way, just by the Rideau River. Super easy to get to, and once you’re there, you’ll totally get why it’s a local favourite.

How to Get to Ottawa’s Chapman Mills

Closest bus stop: If you’re taking the bus stop, hop on one of the OC Transpo routes to Barrhaven—routes like 95 or 99 are your best bet. You’ll want to get off around Strandherd Station, and from there, it’s just about a 15-minute walk to the heat of Chapman Mills.

Alternatively, you can drive and head south on Woodroffe Avenue and turn right on Strandherd Drive. Keep an eye out for local signs once you’re in Barrhaven, and you’ll find your way to Chapman Mills in no time.

What to Do and See in Ottawa’s Chapman Mills

Hike Chapman Mills Conservation Area’s scenic 3 km trail

Chapman Mills Conservation Area is one of the best spots in Ottawa for a family hike. The 3 km trail running through this area is not just beautiful but also super stroller-friendly—great if you’re bringing kids along.

The paths are well-maintained and mostly flat, so no worries about tricky spots. Along the trail, you’re going to see everything from lush greenery to stunning views of the Rideau River. 

The trail will also take you under the Vimy Memorial Bridge, which is an absolute treat. It’s pretty common to see local wildlife here—think birds, maybe even a deer or two.

The Jock River shoreline should be on your radar if you’re looking for a spot to lay out a picnic. With plenty of shaded spots, you won’t have to worry about getting too much sun.

Now, while you’re munching on your sandwiches, look around you, there’s usually something happening—you might spot folks canoeing or kayaking. And it’s not uncommon to see curious ducks making their rounds.

Some trails may require you to bring your own snowshoes, while others might have rentals available. One of the things you should definitely keep an eye out for is the wildlife. Even in the winter, you might spot deer, rabbits, and birds!

Let the kids have fun at Water Dragon Park

Water Dragon Park is all about fun and it’s got a uniquely cool, dragon-themed setup that kids will absolutely love. It features a big, winding dragon structure that kids can climb, slide down, and explore.

A splash pad area is available here, so the kids can cool off. There’s plenty of space to run around too, and various place features to keep them engaged for quite a while. 

Additionally, benches are strategically placed so parents can keep an eye on the little ones while getting some time to relax.

Shop at nearby Chapman Mills Marketplace

Chapman Mills Marketplace is pretty much a one-stop-shop experience. It’s got an excellent variety of stores—from big brand names to smaller, unique shops.

There is plenty of dining to choose from. There are even a few cozy spots for a cup of coffee if you need a break in between stores.

One tip: parking can sometimes get a bit tight.
